Affirming therapy for teens

Therapy for Teens and Adolescents in Oklahoma

Being a teenager is genuinely hard. Having a therapist who gets that makes a real difference.

Teens are navigating school pressure, social dynamics, identity, family stress, and a world that is a lot to process, all at the same time. A lot of them are also dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, or questions about who they are that they are not ready to bring to their parents yet.

If you are the parent, you might be seeing shutdowns, panic, school refusal, irritability, isolation, constant conflict at home, or a kid who insists they are fine when they are clearly not. That is worth bringing in.

Therapy for teens at Ala Therapy Collective is not lecture-y or clinical or weird. It is a space where your kid gets to talk to someone who is actually in their corner, not reporting everything back to you, and not treating them like a problem to be managed.

Your kid does not need another adult lecturing them. They need someone they can actually talk to.

What We Work On

Anxiety and depression

Some teens fall apart out loud. Some look fine until they are alone in their room. Therapy gives them a place for the panic, the sadness, the overthinking, the perfectionism, the burnout, and the stress they cannot always explain yet.

Trauma

Teen trauma does not always look like trauma. It shows up as avoidance, anger, numbness, people pleasing, sleep problems, or insisting everything is fine. Kenzie Langford uses EMDR with teens carrying something heavy.

ADHD and neurodivergent brains

This is not about teaching your kid to act normal. It is about helping them understand how their brain works, build tools that actually fit, and put down the shame that piles up from years of being misunderstood.

Identity, self worth, and LGBTQIA+ specific concerns

Your teen does not have to defend who they are here. We work with LGBTQIA+ teens and teens sorting through identity, relationships, body image, and what it feels like to be safe being themselves.

School, family, and social stuff

Grades, friendships, breakups, conflict at home, social media, bullying, loneliness, packed schedules. Therapy slows it down so they can talk through what is actually going on under the behavior.

A Note for Parents

We know you want to know what is happening in your kid's sessions. We get it. But the reason teen therapy works is because your teen knows it is a confidential space. If they think their therapist is reporting back to you, they will shut down and the therapy will not work.

That does not mean you are shut out. We involve you around goals and the bigger picture, and we always tell you about safety concerns. If there is risk of harm, abuse, or neglect, or anything we are legally and ethically required to act on, we act. Short of that, your teen gets their own space. That is not us being difficult. That is us doing our job.

Online sessions happen securely from wherever your teen is most comfortable, which for a lot of teens is their own room, and that is often exactly where they find it easiest to open up. Taylor and Michi Medley both have evening and weekend availability for teens whose schedules make daytime impossible.

FAQ

Where do you see teens?

We see teens in person in Oklahoma City, in person around Tulsa through Taylor Hendricks's Neurodivergent IRL walk and talk sessions, and online across the rest of Oklahoma. Online sessions happen securely, so your teen can meet from wherever they are most comfortable, whether that is the metro or a rural community far from any office.

What ages do you work with?

We work with teens and adolescents, and younger kids too. Taylor Hendricks sees kids as young as 9, and Michi Medley as young as 11.

Will I know what my teen talks about in therapy?

Not every detail, and that is on purpose. Teen therapy works when teens have privacy. You are involved around goals and the bigger picture, and we always communicate about safety. But the therapist is not there to report every session back to you.

Can therapy help if my teen has ADHD or autism?

Yes. We work with neurodivergent teens, including ADHD, autism, AuDHD, sensory overwhelm, masking, burnout, and school stress, with clinicians who actually get it.

Do you work with LGBTQIA+ teens?

Yes. We offer affirming therapy for LGBTQIA+ teens and teens exploring identity. Your teen does not have to explain or defend who they are here.

Do you take insurance for teen therapy?

Yes, we are in network with most major plans. You can check your specific benefits right on our website.
