Trauma Therapy in Oklahoma

What happened to you matters.

And it is not too late to do something about it.

Trauma is not just combat veterans and major disasters. It is the relationship that slowly convinced you that you were the problem. It is the childhood you have spent years trying to explain away. It is the accident, the assault, the loss, the thing you still cannot talk about without your chest tightening. It is the stuff that got lodged somewhere in your body and your brain and never fully processed.

You probably already know something is still stuck. You might not know what to do about it. That is where we come in.

What trauma can look like

You might not think of yourself as someone with trauma. You might just know that something is off.

  • You are always a little on edge
  • You expect the other shoe to drop
  • You have a hard time trusting people, even good ones
  • You overthink everything, then overthink the overthinking
  • You go numb when things get heavy
  • You people-please until there is nothing left of you
  • You feel unsafe even when nothing is actually wrong

Trauma does not always look dramatic. Sometimes it just looks like survival that never got switched back off.

How we treat trauma

Several of our therapists are trained in EMDR, which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It sounds weird. It works. EMDR helps your brain actually process traumatic memories instead of just talking around them forever. It is one of the most well-researched trauma treatments available and our clients see real results with it.

We also work with trauma using other evidence-based approaches depending on what fits you best. Your therapist will talk with you about your history and what approach makes the most sense for where you are.

Religious trauma

We name this one on purpose, because it gets missed. People are told they should be grateful for how they were raised, so they never get to call the damage what it is.

Purity culture. Church hurt. High-control religion. Spiritual abuse. Shame handed to you as guidance. Being punished for asking questions. Walking away from a belief system that was your whole identity and your whole community at the same time.

That is real, and it deserves real care. Madison Johnson, LCSW works specifically with religious trauma and does not need you to justify why it still gets to you.

Who we work with

Most of our therapists have trauma training because almost everyone who walks through the door is carrying something. If trauma overlaps with ADHD or being neurodivergent, Taylor Hendricks, LMSW brings trauma-informed care to that intersection. If it overlaps with being LGBTQIA+, we work there too, and we will not make you explain the basics.

Virtual across Oklahoma

We offer virtual trauma therapy across all of Oklahoma. EMDR works just as well over telehealth, so distance does not have to be the thing that stops you. A lot of clients actually prefer doing this kind of work from their own space.

We take insurance

Most of our trauma clients use insurance. We are in network with Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, UHC, Optum, TRICARE, and others, and you can verify your specific benefits on our site before you even have to pick up the phone. If insurance is a barrier or you prefer private pay, say the word and we will figure it out.

Frequently asked questions

What is trauma therapy?

Therapy that helps your brain and body finish processing something that got stuck. Sometimes that is EMDR. Sometimes it is talk-based work. Your therapist figures out the right approach with you, based on your history and where you are right now.

Does EMDR work online?

Yes. EMDR can be done over telehealth and it works. A lot of clients prefer doing this kind of work from their own space.

Does insurance cover trauma therapy?

Usually. We are in network with several major plans, and you can verify your specific benefits before you ever pick up the phone.

How long does trauma therapy take?

It depends on what you are working through. Some things move faster than people expect. We will not drag it out, and we will not rush you either.

What if I do not remember everything that happened?

That is normal, and you do not need a clear timeline to start. Your body often remembers what your memory does not, and we can work with that.

Is religious trauma actually trauma?

Yes. High-control religion, spiritual abuse, purity culture, and being shamed for questioning can leave real and lasting effects. You do not have to defend whether it counts.

You have carried this long enough

You do not have to have it all figured out, and you do not have to prove it was bad enough first. If something from back then is still running your life now, that is reason enough. Reach out and we will match you with the right therapist for what you are dealing with.
