Getting started
Send your BCBS member ID through the contact form. We run your benefits before session one.
Does Blue Cross Blue Shield Cover Therapy in Oklahoma
Yes. BCBS covers therapy
in Oklahoma.
Most Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma plans cover outpatient mental health therapy and counseling, in person and online. Federal mental health parity law requires BCBS to cover mental health at the same level as medical and surgical care, so therapy isn't a lesser benefit on your plan.
Ala Therapy Collective is in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma's Blue Choice PPO, Blue Preferred PPO, Blue Advantage PPO, and BlueLincs HMO networks, which covers the employer plans and both statewide Marketplace PPOs. The one we confirm case by case is MyBlue HMO, the newer metro-only plan. Your network name is printed on your card; send it and we confirm before your first session.
What in network actually means for you: lower out-of-pocket cost, no claim paperwork, and no waiting on reimbursement. We handle the billing. You show up to therapy.
Blue Cross from another state? That's what BlueCard is for, and it's covered in the BCBS FAQ below, along with FEP, the OU switch, and Medicaid.
Blue Cross Blue Shield Therapy Cost in Oklahoma
What a BCBS session
actually costs you.
Your cost depends on your specific plan, where your deductible stands, and whether your plan uses a copay or coinsurance for outpatient mental health. A Blue Advantage Bronze plan off the Marketplace and a large employer PPO won't cost the same per session. Here's how we handle it.
Your cost depends on your plan.
BCBS plans vary. Some clients owe nothing per session. Some owe a flat copay. Plans with coinsurance or an unmet deductible cost more until the deductible is met.
We tell you the exact number.
Before your first session we verify your specific plan with Blue Cross Blue Shield and put your per-session cost in writing. No surprises, and no promises we can't keep.
What we check before you start.
When we run your benefits with Blue Cross Blue Shield, we confirm:
- Whether your plan covers outpatient therapy, in person and online
- Which BCBSOK network your card carries, and whether it's the one HMO we confirm case by case
- Your deductible and how much of it is left
- Your copay or coinsurance per session
- Whether your plan wants a referral from your PCP
You get the numbers in writing before your first session.
Please note: insurance benefit quotes are estimates from your insurance provider and are not a guarantee of coverage. Final responsibility for payment depends on how your insurance processes the actual claim for each date of service.

Blue Cross Blue Shield Therapy FAQ
What people ask
about BCBS and therapy.
Is there a Blue Cross Blue Shield therapist in Oklahoma City who sees clients in person?
Yes. Kenzie Langford and Demetria Bonds see BCBS clients face to face at the Oklahoma City office, and both see clients online as well. Same member ID, same verification.
Is there a BCBS therapist near Tulsa?
Taylor Hendricks meets clients outdoors around the Tulsa metro through Neurodivergent IRL: sessions on trails and in parks, ages twelve and up. Every other clinician on this page sees Tulsa clients online. We verify your benefits before the first session, trail or screen.
Does Blue Cross Blue Shield cover online therapy in Oklahoma?
Most BCBSOK plans cover telehealth therapy. Madison Johnson and Michi Medley see clients online statewide, and every clinician offers video sessions. We confirm your plan's telehealth benefit during verification. More on the online therapy in Oklahoma page.
Which Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma networks are you in network with?
Blue Choice PPO, Blue Preferred PPO, Blue Advantage PPO, and BlueLincs HMO. That covers the employer plans and both statewide Marketplace PPOs. Tiered products like Blue Options and BlueSolutions stack those same networks, so those cards work too; the tier changes what you owe per session, and we tell you which tier applies. The one plan we confirm case by case is MyBlue HMO, the newer HMO sold in 15 counties around Oklahoma City and Tulsa. If that's your card, send it and we check before you book.
My card is Blue Cross from another state. Are you in network?
Almost certainly, through BlueCard. If your card has the suitcase logo, your plan is part of BlueCard, which lets you use the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma network while you live or work here. Blue Cross of Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, or anywhere else: send the front and back of the card and we verify with your home plan before your first session.
I have FEP Blue through a federal job. Is this the right page?
Close, but no. FEP BlueCross BlueShield is the Federal Employee Program, and it lives on the federal and military page with GEHA and TRICARE. Same clinicians, different rules.
I work for the University of Oklahoma and my plan moved to BCBS in 2026. Are you in network?
Yes. OU's medical plan moved to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma on January 1, 2026. Send your new BCBS member ID through the contact form and we verify it like any other BCBSOK plan. If you were already seeing us under the old Cigna plan, you keep your clinician and we re-verify under Blue Cross.
Do I need a referral to see a therapist with BCBS?
On the PPO plans, Blue Choice, Blue Preferred, and Blue Advantage, no. You don't pick a primary care provider and you don't need a referral for outpatient mental health. The HMO plans, BlueLincs HMO and MyBlue HMO, coordinate care through a primary care provider, and some services need a referral. We check yours during verification, so you don't have to guess.
Does BCBS cover therapy for anxiety and depression?
Yes. Anxiety and depression fall under the outpatient behavioral health benefit on every commercial BCBSOK plan. Your copay, coinsurance, and deductible depend on your specific plan, so we check your benefits and tell you what to expect before your first session. More on the anxiety and depression page.
Does Blue Cross Blue Shield cover EMDR therapy?
Yes. EMDR is billed under standard psychotherapy codes and is covered like any other outpatient therapy session under your BCBS plan. Kenzie Langford is the EMDR trained clinician currently booking with BCBS. Shylah Ridgway is also EMDR trained, and her therapy caseload is currently full. More on the EMDR therapy page.
How many therapy sessions does BCBS cover?
Most current BCBSOK plans don't cap outpatient therapy sessions as long as treatment is medically necessary. Some plans still carry annual limits or ask for authorization after a set number of visits. We check yours during benefits verification.
Can I use Blue Cross Blue Shield for my teenager's therapy?
Yes. Kenzie Langford and Taylor Hendricks both work with teens, and Taylor sees clients twelve and up. Send the teen's BCBS member ID through the contact form and we run the benefits before the first session. More on the therapy for teens page.
Does BCBS cover postpartum therapy?
Yes. Perinatal mental health is covered under the same outpatient benefit as any other therapy on your BCBS plan. Madison Johnson works with pregnancy, postpartum, and the stretch after, online across Oklahoma. More on the perinatal and postpartum page.
How much is therapy with BCBS after insurance?
It depends on your plan. Employer PPOs often use a flat copay per session once any deductible is met. Marketplace plans depend on metal level: a Blue Advantage Bronze plan carries a high deductible you pay through first, while Silver and Gold plans carry lower deductibles and lower per-session costs. We verify your plan and put your per-session number in writing before you start.
How do I read my BCBS Summary of Benefits for therapy?
Every plan, employer or Marketplace, comes with a Summary of Benefits and Coverage, the standardized document in your Blue Access for Members portal or from your HR department. Find the row that reads "If you need mental health, behavioral health, or substance abuse services" and look at "Outpatient services." The Network Provider column is what you'd pay per session with us. A dollar amount is a copay; a percentage is coinsurance; "after deductible" means the deductible comes first. If you'd rather not decode it, send it with your member ID and we read it for you.
What do deductible, copay, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket maximum mean?
Deductible: what you pay before the plan starts paying, if your plan applies it to therapy. Copay: a flat amount per session. Coinsurance: a percentage of the contracted session rate instead of a flat amount. Out-of-pocket maximum: the ceiling on what you pay in a plan year; once you hit it, covered care is paid in full by the plan. We tell you which of these your plan uses and where you stand on each before your first session.
What if my plan isn't in network?
If we find during verification that your specific BCBS plan or network isn't one we're in, we tell you upfront. If your plan has out-of-network benefits, you can still see us and we provide superbills for reimbursement.
If insurance isn't going to work, we have self-pay and limited sliding scale options. Details are on the insurance hub.
Do you accept Medicaid or SoonerCare plans?
No. Ala Therapy Collective doesn't bill Medicaid. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma isn't one of the SoonerSelect plans anyway; those are Aetna Better Health, Humana Healthy Horizons, and Oklahoma Complete Health. If your card says SoonerSelect, reach out and we'll point you toward in-network options.
I have Blue Cross in Texas or Massachusetts. Can I still see you?
Possibly, online. Kenzie Langford is licensed in Texas and Massachusetts as well as Oklahoma. Each state has its own Blue Cross page: BCBS therapy in Texas and BCBS therapy in Massachusetts.
