The Two Names

Cigna and Evernorth are the same company.

Cigna is the insurance plan. Evernorth Behavioral Health is the arm that runs Cigna's mental health benefits, which means your therapy claims, authorizations, and provider directory often come through Evernorth even though your insurance card says Cigna. We're in-network either way. You don't have to figure out which one you have to book with us.

If your card says Cigna

Most commercial Cigna plans, including Cigna Open Access Plus and most employer plans, run through this network. Send us your member ID and we verify it.

If your portal or referral says Evernorth

Evernorth is Cigna's behavioral health admin. Same network, same verification process, same in-network rate. Send us the member ID from your Cigna card.

What It Costs

The honest version.

What you pay per session depends on your specific Cigna plan, your deductible, and whether your plan uses a copay or coinsurance. We can't give you a flat number on a website. What we can do is verify your plan and tell you what every session will cost before you book the first one.

Before your first session, we confirm:

  • Whether your plan covers outpatient therapy and telehealth (almost all do)
  • Your deductible and how much of it is left
  • Your copay or coinsurance per session
  • Whether your plan needs a referral from your primary care doctor

You get the numbers in writing, in plain English, before you commit to anything.

Common Questions

What people ask about Cigna and therapy.

My card says Cigna but the referral says Evernorth. Are you in-network?

Yes. Evernorth Behavioral Health is Cigna's mental health arm, so both names point to the same network. Send us your Cigna member ID and we'll verify.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

For most Cigna plans, no. Cigna PPO and Open Access Plus plans typically don't require a referral to see a mental health provider. Some HMO and POS plans might. We confirm during benefits verification.

Does Cigna cover EMDR?

Yes. EMDR sessions are billed the same way as any other outpatient therapy session, so they're covered under your standard outpatient mental health benefit.

How many sessions does Cigna cover per year?

Most current Cigna plans don't cap outpatient therapy sessions as long as treatment is medically necessary, which is a low bar to clear in clinical practice. Some plans have annual session limits. We check yours during benefits verification.

What if my Cigna plan isn't in our network?

Sometimes a Cigna plan is self-funded by an employer and runs on a different network than the standard Cigna commercial one. If yours turns out to be one of those, we tell you upfront. You may still be able to use out-of-network benefits and we can provide a superbill for reimbursement, or use our self-pay or sliding scale options. See our Insurance page for details.
