Getting started

We run your benefits before session one. No surprise bills.

The Short Answer

Does Aetna cover therapy in Oklahoma?

Yes. Most Aetna plans cover outpatient mental health therapy in Oklahoma, including online sessions. Under federal mental health parity law, Aetna is required to cover mental health benefits at the same level as medical and surgical benefits.

We're in-network with most Aetna commercial plans (PPO, POS, EPO, and Open Access HMO). That means your sessions are billed directly to Aetna and you only owe your copay or coinsurance, never the full session fee.

What "in-network" actually means for you: lower out-of-pocket cost, no claim paperwork, no waiting for reimbursement. We handle the billing. You show up to therapy.

Real Numbers

What Aetna therapy actually costs.

Your out-of-pocket cost depends on your specific plan, your deductible status, and whether your plan has a copay or coinsurance structure. Here's how we handle it.

Your cost depends on your plan

Aetna plans vary. Some clients pay nothing per session. Others pay a copay. Plans with coinsurance or unmet deductibles cost more.

We tell you the exact number

Before your first session, we verify your specific plan with Aetna and tell you what each session will cost. No surprises, no promises we can't keep.

What we check before you start.

When we run your benefits with Aetna, we confirm:

✦ Whether your plan covers outpatient therapy

✦ Your deductible and how much is left

✦ Your copay or coinsurance per session

✦ Whether you need a referral from your PCP

You get the numbers in writing before you commit to anything.

Not sure your plan is covered?

Send us your Aetna member ID and we'll confirm we're in-network with your specific plan before your first session. No guessing, no surprise bills. We do the verification for you.

Common Questions

What people ask about Aetna and therapy.

Does Aetna cover online therapy in Oklahoma?

Yes. Most Aetna plans cover telehealth therapy at the same rate as in-person sessions. We're a fully online practice across Oklahoma, so every session with us is telehealth.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

For most Aetna plans, no. PPO, EPO, and Open Access HMO plans don't require a referral to see a mental health provider. Traditional HMO plans may require a referral from your primary care physician. We'll confirm this when we run your benefits.

How many sessions does Aetna cover?

Most current Aetna plans don't have a hard cap on outpatient therapy sessions as long as treatment is medically necessary. Some older plans have annual session limits. We'll check yours during benefits verification.

Does Aetna cover EMDR?

Yes. EMDR is billed under standard psychotherapy CPT codes and is covered like any other outpatient therapy session under your Aetna plan.

What if my plan isn't in-network?

If we find during verification that your specific Aetna plan isn't in our network, we'll tell you upfront. You can still see us using your out-of-network benefits if your plan has them, and we'll provide superbills for reimbursement.

If insurance isn't going to work, we have self-pay and limited sliding scale options. See our Insurance page for details.

What's the difference between Aetna and Aetna Better Health?

Aetna is commercial insurance (usually through an employer or marketplace). Aetna Better Health is Aetna's Medicaid plan, known in Oklahoma as SoonerSelect. We're in-network with Aetna commercial plans, not Aetna Better Health / SoonerSelect. If you have the Medicaid version, contact us and we'll point you to in-network options.

Here's what the Aetna Better Health / SoonerSelect card looks like:

If your card looks like this, we can't take it
Example of an Aetna Better Health of Oklahoma SoonerSelect card
Quick tells on the Aetna Better Health card
  • Says "Aetna Better Health of Oklahoma" (not just "Aetna")
  • Has a "SoonerSelect" indicator on it
  • Has a "Medicaid ID" field (commercial cards say "Member ID")
  • Lists your PCP name and phone number on the front
  • Member services phone is 1-844-365-4385

If any of those show up on your card, that's Aetna Better Health / SoonerSelect and we'd need to refer you elsewhere. If your card just says "Aetna" with a plan type like PPO, EPO, POS, or HMO, you're commercial Aetna and we can verify your benefits.
