BCBSMA Plan Names

Whatever your card reads, we can verify it.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts runs several product lines under one umbrella. The plan names look different but the underlying network and our in-network status are the same.

HMO Blue

The HMO product line. Some plans require a PCP referral for mental health, some don't, depending on the specific subplan. We'll check yours.

Blue Choice and Blue Care Elect

PPO-style plans with broader network access and no referral required to see a therapist.

Access Blue and Indemnity plans

Traditional fee-for-service and broad-access products. Still BCBSMA, still in-network with us.

What It Costs

BCBSMA plans run the spectrum. We tell you yours before you start.

Cost depends on whether you have a copay or coinsurance, and where you are on your deductible. We verify your specific plan and write you the actual numbers before you book a first session.

  • Outpatient therapy and telehealth coverage
  • Deductible remaining
  • Copay or coinsurance per session
  • Referral requirements, if any

Why Ala

Most BCBS therapists in MA work for someone else.

BCBS is the biggest insurer in Massachusetts, which means a long list of in-network therapists. Most of them work for hospitals, healthcare systems, or corporate platforms with rotating clinicians and corporate intake processes. Ala Therapy Collective is a small, virtual practice with one Massachusetts therapist who answers her own messages. If you book with us, you book with Kenzie. That's it.

Same therapist, every week

You see the same person from session one onward. No rotating cast, no transferring notes between clinicians, no starting over.

Real human verification

A human reads your insurance card, runs benefits, and writes you the actual cost. Not a chatbot estimate that turns out to be off by a hundred dollars.

Specialty fit, not generic match

Kenzie works specifically with religious trauma, EMDR, teens and young adults, and LGBTQIA+ affirming care. She is not generic-affirming, she is affirming-on-purpose.

Built around how therapy actually starts

We tell you what each session will cost, what the first session looks like, and what to expect after, before you sign anything.

Common Questions

BCBS therapy in Massachusetts, asked and answered.

Is Kenzie in-network with BCBS of Massachusetts?

Yes. Kenzie is credentialed with BCBSMA under her LICSW license. Send a photo of your card and we'll handle the rest.

My card says HMO Blue. Do I need a referral?

Sometimes. A few HMO Blue subplans want a referral from your PCP for mental health, others don't. We check during benefits verification before you book.

Does BCBSMA cover online therapy?

Yes. Telehealth is covered at the same rate as in-person under nearly every current BCBSMA plan. Every session with Ala Therapy Collective is online.

Does BCBSMA cover EMDR?

Yes. EMDR is billed under outpatient psychotherapy codes, which fall under your standard mental health benefit.

Do you take MassHealth?

No. We don't accept MassHealth or any state Medicaid product.
