The Name Maze
Three names, one company.
Harvard Pilgrim and Tufts merged in 2021 to form Point32Health. In 2024, Tufts commercial plans transitioned to Harvard Pilgrim branding. Your card might say any of these three names, but they all flow through the same Massachusetts network and we are in-network for all of them.
Harvard Pilgrim
The main commercial brand for the merged company. Most current MA cards now say Harvard Pilgrim, including former Tufts commercial members.
Point32Health
The parent company name. Often appears on documentation, member portals, and provider directories even when your card itself reads Harvard Pilgrim.
Tufts
If your card still reads Tufts, it is likely Tufts Health Direct (sold through the MA Health Connector) or a Tufts Senior Products Medicare plan. Both verify the same way.
Send a photo of your card either way. We figure out which underlying network it routes to and verify from there.

Optum runs your mental health side. That is fine.
Harvard Pilgrim contracts with Optum Behavioral Health to administer mental health benefits in Massachusetts. Your medical side stays with Harvard Pilgrim. Your therapy side flows through Optum. So when you see Optum on your provider portal, referral, or pre-authorization paperwork, you are not in the wrong place. We are in-network with Optum for the therapy side, so the whole chain works.
What It Costs

Harvard Pilgrim offers HMO, PPO, and POS plans, plus Quality HMO and Explorer POS products for state and municipal employees through the GIC. Each has different cost structures. We verify your specific plan and write you the actual numbers before you book a first session, so nothing comes as a surprise.

Does Harvard Pilgrim cover online therapy and EMDR?
Yes to both. Telehealth is covered at the same rate as in-person under nearly every Harvard Pilgrim plan in Massachusetts. EMDR sessions are billed under standard outpatient psychotherapy codes and fall under your standard mental health benefit.
I have Harvard Pilgrim through the GIC. Is it the same?
Yes. Harvard Pilgrim Quality HMO and Explorer POS plans through the Group Insurance Commission run on the same network for mental health benefits. State employees, municipal employees, and teachers are covered.
Do you take MassHealth?
No. We do not accept MassHealth or any state Medicaid product. If your card is a MassHealth ACO partnered with Tufts (like Tufts Health Together with Cambridge Health Alliance or UMass Memorial), that is still MassHealth and we cannot bill it.
